A cooperative is an independent association of people who voluntarily cooperate for mutual social, economic, and cultural benefit. Cooperative includes non-profit community organizations and businesses that are owned and operated by the people who use their services (consumer cooperative) or by the people who work there (production cooperative). Or by the people who live there (Cooperative Society for Building and Housing) and there are other types such as (Agricultural Cooperative Society), (Cooperative Society for Water Resources), (Cooperative Society for Petroleum), (Cooperative Insurance Society), (Educational Cooperative Society). Co-operative societies may include:
Businesses owned and managed by the people who use its services (consumer cooperative) Organizations run by its employees (productive cooperative).
Multistakeholder cooperatives or mixed societies that are co-owned by different stakeholder groups. For example, care cooperatives in which ownership is shared between caregivers and beneficiaries. Stakeholders may also include non-profits or investors.
Cooperative societies of the second and third levels whose members are other cooperative societies.
Co-operative Societies via platforms that use a cooperatively owned and controlled website, mobile app or protocol to facilitate the sale of goods and services.
